The Brussels Sprout has such a bad rep, they're really the underdog of all veggies. They sadly lay idle in the supermarket next to the bitter melon (okay, okay, that reference may be slightly exaggerated, no one likes bitter melon). I have always loved brussels sprouts, but they are not love at first bite for everyone. When I moved back from San Francisco I made my mom some crispy roasted maple balsamic brussels and she has since forever loved brussels. My dad and brother however were never enthusiastic about them, until now. Behold! The raw shaved brussels sprout salad! Who would've thought?
You made your Citrus Vinegar, right? Good. Now you can officially replace three of your toxic home products with homemade, healthy & Eco-friendly ones! The Citrus vinegar is the common ingredient for the homemade all purpose cleaner, the wood cleaner & polish, and the towel & linen softener.
Traditional cleaning products are laden with toxic chemicals. When we are exposed to these chemicals on a regular basis our bodies become inundated. What we are routinely exposed to we absorb- and yes, this includes cleaning chemicals. We already live in a toxic world, the food we eat, the water we drink, the medications we take, etc. all take a toll of our body. When we can make better choices, we should. If it's possible to reduce the toxic burden by any means, we should. In the process not only are you making it easier on your body (one less thing to inundate your liver with), but you're also saving money and contributing to a less consumptive lifestyle which directly effects the planet.
So what is Citrus Vinegar? It is white vinegar that has been infusing with citrus peels, the end result being a product that smells a whole lot better than straight vinegar and becomes a fantastic base for DIY house hold products such as an all purpose cleaner, wood cleaner and polish, and fabric softener (stay tuned for those recipes- in the meantime, get your citrus vinegar ready!).
Bean dips are so very easy to make and are much more economical than purchasing them premade at the store. I recommend keeping a dip in the fridge, weekly, with some cut veggies for easy snacking!
Ah! I can't believe how long it's been since I posted a recipe. There's a whole bunch of reasons why, ultimately life. My energy goes mostly to my job, then balancing that with trying to keep myself healthy and sane. Finding time for myself, my friends, my passions, my family. I've been writing a cookbook, a baby's first foods cookbook with an emphasis on health awareness. I can't wait to share that with you! But in the meantime I'm going to share this- the most delicious summery drink that makes my heart sing! Strawberry Lemonade!
Aka, the easiest throw-together appetizer. This is my kinda dish. I love mushrooms, and I love them even more when they're stuffed with pesto. Give them a try! They're seriously easy to make.
These pancakes are perfect. My favorite pancake recipe thus far, and for many reasons. The first reason being that these pancakes are made without flour, and instead steel cut oats. They're incredibly fluffy, far fluffier than any other pancakes I've ever had. And they're made so quickly!! With so little ingredients! Dare I say these bad boys aren't bad for you either? It's true, take a lot at the ingredients list!
I adore Chef Chloe, and for those of you who don't know her you're missing out. She's paving the way for more plant based options in the culinary world. Her cookbooks are phenomenal with recipes that are reliable and always delicious. This recipe comes from her cookbook Chloe's Kitchen. One little 8-ounce package of tempeh transformed into a dish that was beyond impressive. A definite repeat for this kitchen.
This holiday tart has been made many a times for both my family and friends who have requested its presence. Every bite just screams Autumn with it's rich, nutty and savory notes. It's, by far, one of my favorite dishes during this time of year and is always a shining star at Thanksgiving.
