Garlic oil is an extremely effective remedy for ear aches, discomfort and acute infections. Traditionally antibiotics is prescribed for ear infections but often times the body is able to self heal in 1-3 days with the assistance of garlic oil. Garlic oil can easily be made at home and is a recipe that we should all tuck away in our medicine cabinet.
If you've been following my fitness series you'll know I've been showcasing different classes offered at Everbalance in Jacksonville, FL. I've committed to learning more about different workout classes, read more about that here, and have so far taken a Barre Core Fusion class and their Lunch Time Yoga class which I'll share with you today!
Barre Core Fusion is a mat workout class that focuses on core strength. The class uses both the mat and the barre to workout specific muscle groups.
It's 2018, have you met your fitness goals yet? If you're me the answer is sadly no.
Part of me jumps to the defense as I have a million reasons why! I feel like I'm always working either at or on Balanced Healing of Jacksonville, working on this blog, finishing up the loose ends up my soon to be published first book and spreading the word of safer beauty as a Beautycounter consultant! My to-do list goes on and go....
But if I'm being honest with myself- those are excuses.
"If it's important enough, you'll find the time. If not, you'll find an excuse."
What's in your laundry detergent? Did you know detergents can legally contain toxic ingredients and they DO NOT need to be disclosed by law?!
I have a confession to make...
A friend of mine once told me she had the most amazing recipe for black bean brownies and I totally disregarded her! It wasn't personal... and it was probably a bit subconscious come to think of it. It's just that- well, black bean brownies have never impressed me. And I've had my fair share of them.
Fastforward to five months later when she made a batch for a holiday party.
These literally are THE BEST HEALTHY GRAIN FREE BROWNIES EVER.
So the moral of the story is: do not judge or dismiss said brownies simply because they contain black beans, and do not compare them to other black bean brownies because there truly is no comparison.
These brownies are so super fudgy that they really should be called "Super Fudge Brownies" but because it's not my recipe, we'll stick to the original title.
My first This vs. That post, which was on Dishwasher Detergent, turned out to be one of my most popular blog posts so I decided to make this a series! Now that we've dug around and learned a bit about what's in your dishwasher detergent, lets take a closer look at something that is applied directly to our skulls... This vs. That: Shampoo Edition is here!
Mindfulness: a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.
Do you know when it's easy for me to be mindful? When I have nothing on my to-do list, no one blowing up my phone, and a quiet house with me in the kitchen. Or in a yoga class. Or that moment right before I drift off to sleep.
Besides from those moments, it's so difficult to maintain a mindful state! I'm always battling 12 thoughts at once, usually with 2 or 3 (sometimes 4!) devices near me: my laptop for appointment scheduling, the ipad for note charting, my personal cell phone and my work phone. Even on my drive home I'm usually on a work-related phone call. And if it's not work I have so many other things going on in the background my head could spin off (maintaining healthy friendships and relationships, having enough me-time, making sure the needs of my cat are met - he's high maintenance - and trying to do basic things like laundry and vacuuming before they too get out of control). Speaking of a million things at once.... My book, The Healthy Baby Guidebook, will be available on Amazon this January of 2018!! See what I mean?
My grandpa loved this soup. It's one of the few things I can remember making for him that he loved. The other is my lemon lavender cheesecake- that he adored. It's so heartbreaking how we have these people in our lives & we share memories with them, we cook for them (that's how I love people the best) and then one day they're gone. And for the life of me I can't remember certain things like which of the foods I cooked for him that he loved the most. I only remember those two... So for now I hold on to these things, these memories. I know it's so cliche but find out the details while you still can because when someone is gone, they're gone. And it can happen just like that...and you can be clinging to winter squash & apple soup and lemon lavender cheesecake, wishing for more.
I try my best to make gifts matter. To buy what is needed, what will bring great joy, or what will facilitate a positive change in one's health and wellness. With the holidays around the corner sometimes it feels like a race to consumerism- buy buy buy because you still have a list of people to shop for and you haven't figured out what to get them yet! Just get them anything at this point!
No, stop! Don't get them just anything. Gifts should be thoughtful, even if that means one great thought out gift instead of 3-4 thoughtless gifts. In this gift guide you will find some of my most recommended and well thought out gift ideas, for almost everyone on your shopping list that you can still purchase last minute (thank goodness for Amazon)!
